another tiny bass day

well, is it the hat? is it the shoes? or is it the weather? or, could it unfortunately be the fisher-person? ;))

cuz this last couple days has been really crappy, as far as fishin goes. maybe it's just too hot. i know it's almost too hot for me o go anymore. good lord, i think i'm just gonna keel over out there one day. well, obviously, what i'm headin towards, is the bass just aren't bitin this last couple of days. the tiny ones are, and of course the perch are. but whatever happened to my big old fishies??? i was waitin for my five pounder any day. then they just turned off like a dang light. but at least i got a couple today. and of course i missed a couple. didn't lose them...missed em. bummer huh. anyhow. i only took one pic... just to show the hat o' the day... and also the fishy. but he isn't big at all. right after i got him i got another one... it was a bass, but man it was small. i was hoping nobody saw it. LOL. they were fun to catch. they both felt big...but were obviously not.
so ayhow... i finally gave up on my addictive nature, and headed home. ended up stopping at mcdonalds for everyone forst. cuz i knew i wasn't gonna last long after getting home. in fact, i am falling asleep right now.
sooo...more later maybe

Definite good thing you don't have to feed the family on these babies, Soul! :-) I think the big boys are waitin' for you come Monday morning when you're back on the take kid to school routine. I gotta admire you for going outside to play in that heat and humidity. You couldn't drag me out with a tow truck! Have a nice nap, dream of the big ones! :-)

actually, jos... i woke up dreaming of a damn snake !!!! you know i worry about them out there, so how could they not travel into my dreams eh? anyhow, in my dream...i was trying to get my midnight away from it...when the stupi snake itself, turned into like some sort of deformed...short bodied hairy-long eared..weener dog! no wonder i woke up!!!!
i think the heat is getting to me, and frying the few brain cells i have left!

as for the fish trying to be cool...i think you're right. i did a lot of walking today trying to find shade/deeper water/more cover/ etc...still nothing but the kids. ugh! i guess this time of year..gotta be there before the sun is up. or at least have cloud cover. these 90 plus temps aint doin it for the big boys. surely even the deepest point over there can't be more than four or five feet. i don't know. i'll get em though.
but actually, my poor old body isn't used t all this activity.. my back and legs are very sore, and i'm just drained of every ounce of energy. i need to take a few days off from fishing, and get some real business and cleaning etc caught up on.
ugh... i need the massage fairy for sure!!!

and you are also right jos, it is a darn good thing i am not dependant on these baby bass for dinner. that would pretty much suck eh?

but... if that were the case... i'd be catfishin!

Speaking of snakes, yesterday I was hauling a dirt pile off to the woods. I'd carried about 2 loads. But then when I stuck my shovel in I brought up a baby snake. I killed it and went on my way. Before I was through I'd killed 3 gray babies and 1 yellow baby! I don't know snakes, hate and kill them all! What's scary is, where there's babies the mama is usually nearby! Janice

i hate snakes too...and i'll kill them on site...if i have to. at the one pond we see the at a lot, they are almost always in the water, so we're fairly safe there...but then ya get all creepy feeling and every time ya hit a blade of grass or a bug gets on ya, ya go all weirdo dance and feel like it's a snake ! ugh.
you did see the snake we killed here at the house didn't you? that thing was huge...and mean!
blech.
good thing you didn't have the mommy sneak up behind you while you were slayin her babies!

Oooh, I have had my share of snake nightmares, Soul. I hate those things so, that I wake up in a cold sweat, sometimes screaming. I don't know if I could kill one. If I had no other option I guess. I saw the pix of that big boy hanging off your house. Ewwww! Reminds me to much of the one my daughter brought home for the summer from science class! I was terrified all summer that the thing would get loose in the house. Better luck fishing tomorrow...sore or not, I bet you'll be out there! :-)

Soul, did you ever hear of spooling? Catching catfish where they hang out and wrastling them with your bare hands? It's an amazing thing to watch. Kina bleddy though....

that's a cute little guy!!

(Gina)Is spooling that thing where you stick your hand down that hole, and let the fish bite down on you and then you pull them out??
My cousin used to do that. I think it's illegal:o

Speaking of snakes, you know that bar I have up for sale? Yes, people (who wants to buy a nice Lakefront bar???)
lol
Well the owner was telling us that when he first bought the place , there was not a sea wall, but a whole row of old tires instead , 350 feet of them. And he said they were all just infested with snakes and had become snake nests. So he was out there one day shooting gazillions of snakes and someone called the cops on him.
So the game warden comes out and tells him that snakes are "protected" here and you are not allowed to kill them. WELL < BU**&&IT!!! Any snake I lay eyes on, you can bet I will try my damnedest to kill it!

*ugh shudder* cringe*

I saw some people fishing yesterday and they were catching babies just like yours. it was 95 degrees here. i do think the heat has something to do with it.

You know, me being such a fishing expert and all. ROFL

luv me

gina, no, i've never done that. i've never got a catfish that big either. when they do that they come up with some , like 40 pound cats! that would scare me. i barely even unhook the ones i get, that are just a couple pounds. they sting ya. i have hubby do it!

as for fishing in pain.... you're probably right. even though i did 'Something" to my darn hip! i've been limping since i woke up from my nap yesterday. too much standing and walking ... even though i have a chair i could take, it's too hard to bass fish sitting down.
but i am addicted. i just know there's a five pounder in there waiting for me!!! if i can talk hubby into taking the kid to school..i could go a little earlier, and maybe have a little luck...he's off on mondays. i just don't know if i want to wake him up early to take her. so. i don't know.

oldy... look at the time stamps on our comments! 6:03. funny, we were writing at the same time!

anyhow... yep, you're darn tootin i'da shot those snakes too....but being in a national park... maybe the guy shoulda known to call the rangers. they do have that snake preservation thing... with snakes in aquariums etc...remember?

a coupla days ago here...some people were on the news cuz they had a texas rat snake in their garage and called animal control to come wrangle it. they said it was five feet long...but when they showed it, it was obviously smaller than the one we had at our house. and anyhow... the guy was such a big whimp !!! me and hubby , even though we backed up , got the creepies, and yes we were a little scared too... but we killed the damn thing, without calling animal control to handle it... OR the news/ gosh, everyone wants their fifteen seconds of fame i guess.
but we laughed at them, cuz we are just so much tougher than the average joe . i oughtta call or send my pics in...just to embarrass whimpy boy...and say even a "girl" can kill a rat snake. btw...the ranger person who came to wrangle their snake...was a woman! sure gotta make a dude feel manly huh?

ok... i gotta go.
will i fish...or not? my leg and hip feel close to broken, dislocated at minimum. but, i don't know
i got the FEVER. i wish hubby would wake up! i guess i shall go see if he'll take her to school and meet me at the creek. but once it gets hot, i shall HAVE to leave.

People have to be crazy putting fishing w/their hands! When it rains alot, our whole front yard is covered with the dirt towers crawdads make. Bo asked the extension agent "I know they're protected, but IF I wanted to kill them, how could I do it'. She said 'yes, it's illegal to kill them. Some people risk it by pouring so and so in the holes. ?? Janice
